Crossfit “Hero WOD” Saturday
Many in the nation’s CrossFit community were keenly affected by the recent shootings at Fort Hood, but none as directly as the Lumberjack Crossfit Soldiers on post. Four members of that affiliate - Soldiers assigned to the 20th Engineer Battalion - were killed on Nov. 5.
CrossFit, Inc., headquartered in Washington, D.C., has launched a “Hero WOD” (workout of the day) salute to Fort Hood’s fallen. On Saturday, Crossfit affiliates and individuals nationwide are being asked to do two things: take part in the workout as a display of solidarity with Lumberjack CrossFit and reach out to family, friends and strangers to donate whatever they can to the cause.
According to Capt. Dave Taylor, co-leader of Centurion CrossFit Fort Hood, several Central Texas affiliates plan to travel Saturday to Fort Hood, including teams from Belton, Waco, Cedar Park and Round Rock. They’ll converge on the Fort Hood Wellness Center (33rd St. & Old Ironsides Ave.) at 10 a.m. and take part in multiple heats throughout the day.
“Participating in the workouts is our way of showing support and honoring those killed,” Taylor said. For more information about Saturday’s salute, contact Capt. Taylor by phone at (254) 681-5247, or e-mail him at david.taylor26@conus.army.mil.
